Virtual tour
Please explore the virtual tour of our school to see the wonderful facilities available to the children.
We are a one and a half form entry school which means that we have one and a half classes (45 children) per year group. Currently, there are 13 classes and 8 year groups in total ranging from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 through to Year 6.
In accordance with the National Curriculum, the school is divided into 3 main stages: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2):
Key Stage | Age range | Class | Year groups |
Early Years | Age 3 – 5 | Little Owls | Nursery |
Ladybirds | Reception | ||
Dragonflies | Reception & Year 1 | ||
Key Stage 1 | Age 5 – 7 | Butterflies | Year 1 |
Hedgehogs | Year 2 | ||
Squirrels | Year 1 & 2 | ||
Lower Key Stage 2 |
Age 7 – 9 | Otters | Year 3 |
Badgers | Year 3 & 4 | ||
Foxes | Year 4 | ||
Upper Key Stage 2 |
Age 9 – 11 | Swallows | Year 5 |
Doves | Year 5 | ||
Kingfishers | Year 6 | ||
Eagles | Year 6 |
Currently, we have two classes with mixed-age year groups: Squirrels (Year 1 & 2) and Badgers (Year 3 & 4). Children moving from Reception to Year 1 receive an Early Years based provision working on Early Learning Goals transitioning onto the National Curriculum for Year 1. Year 5 and 6 are currently taught in small classes of 22-23 children to meet their needs in the aftermath of the impact of the pandemic on their learning.
All children are taught according to their needs and age, irrespective of whether they are in a mixed-age or single-age class. Research evidence by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) suggests that setting by class does not on average have a positive impact. Therefore, generally, we do not set by ability as setting and streaming are not effective ways to raise attainment for most pupils. We offer a range of interventions for children who need a little extra support with their learning and when children reach Year 6, some children working at greater depth in maths and English receive separate lessons to ensure they reach their full potential. Equally, children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) participate in interventions designed to support progress on their Care Plans to ensure their needs are being met.
