Safeguarding at West Ham Church School
Safety is our priority and we want our children and staff to know we listen to them. We promote a culture where staff understand that Safeguarding is all of our responsibility.
Please read our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy for more information. During Covid-19, our Safeguarding Addendum replaces this. We have adopted the London Borough of Newham’s policy, which complies with the Department of Education’s Keeping Children Safe in Education document.
All staff receive in depth Safeguarding training annually, with updated information during the year.
Staff and volunteers are recruited in line with Safer Recruitment Procedures ensuring all appropriate checks are completed. Anyone visiting the school for the first time receives our Safeguarding and Evacuation procedures. Visual information regarding our safeguarding team is displayed throughout our school.
Any safeguarding concerns must be reported to the safeguarding team immediately.
Concerns regarding a member of staff should be reported to the Headteacher or the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), who can be contacted on 0203 373 3392 or email: CPRT.LADO@newham.gov.uk
Operation Encompass
We are partners in the joint London Metropolitan Police and London Borough of Newham’s Operation Encompass, a confidential channel of communication between the police and Key Adults within the school (Safeguarding Team). The Key Adult is contacted securely if the police attend a domestic abuse incident with children in the household. This enables early intervention and further support in school to address the broader effects of the abuse.
We also work with a range of specialists to support pupils including an Educational Psychologist and an Art Therapist.
