We have spent a lot of time outdoors gardening in our allotment area during the summer term. Each bubble group had at least one session gardening a week with our enthusiastic staff, Mrs. Dosti and Mrs. Chowdhury. First, children learnt how to prepare the earth for new plants and seeds by hoeing, digging and weeding using a fork and trowel. There were smiles and laughter all around as they had so much fun!
Each group took it in turns to plant: we have a vegetable garden and flowers and herbs as well. We have grown lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, pumpkins, marrow, and herbs like chives, lavender, sage, and mint. The geraniums are in full bloom and the sunflower we planted is very tall!
We intend to continue with gardening as a regular item in our curriculum and there will be opportunities for the children to come to an after-school club – watch this space!
