Children take part in two PE lessons per week where they learn to play a number of sports such as cricket, rugby and basketball. Year 5 children attend weekly swimming lessons at Balaam
Leisure Centre as one of their lessons. Children are expected to take part in all PE lessons, including
swimming, unless they have a doctors note to excuse them.
After school clubs for sports run from Monday to Thursday and include karate, football, basketball and ballet. Children also have the chance to play sports in the early morning during Breakfast Club.
Sports Days take place on the school field each year. These are traditional, competitive events where each child competes as an individual and as a member of their house. We believe that while Sports Days give the children the opportunity to have fun together, they also teach the value of good sportsmanship and the importance of being able to cope with winning and loosing.
Cycle Training Weeks
Bikability training takes place in school, on the local roads and in West Ham Park according the the ability of the children who take part. Some children are not confident enough for the roads when they are in Year 5, so Mrs Nesbitt's beginners classes give them the skills to be ready for the next year.
